Bilal Bazzi, Owner, Crystals events and catering
In the fast-evolving landscape of Saudi Arabia’s luxury events and catering landscape, where grandeur meets tradition, Bilal Bazzi stands as a quiet force.
He didn’t grow up dreaming of centrepieces or canapés; rather, he weaved a narrative that is deeply human, anchored in passionate care and sharp business acumen. Early on, working in hotel operations, Bilal noticed something that others overlooked – hospitality isn’t about service; it’s a love in action. It’s the ability to read a room, before words are spoken. To anticipate needs before they arise. To make a guest feel remembered, even if it’s their first visit.
The instinct that shaped the background of Crystal Events and Catering.
From Ten Events to Two Thousand
Together with his wife and co-founder, Rania Najjar, Bilal launched Crystals Events and Catering in 2005. Rania brought operational clarity, rooted in an upbringing surrounded by entrepreneurship and care. Her family ran hospitals, instilling in her a mindset where excellence wasn’t an aspiration – it was the baseline. Bilal carried an unshakeable commitment to refined guest experiences.
They started small – just ten events a year. It was a time when Saudi Arabia was only beginning to embrace the idea of external catering for private events. Privacy was paramount, and opening doors to unfamiliar service teams was met with caution. But Bilal saw possibilities where others saw barriers. “Our growth has been driven by a belief that hospitality is not just about food or setup; it’s about how people feel,” Bilal emphasizes.
He built trust through discretion, professionalism, and consistency. The business grew by word of mouth, guest by guest, event by event. Today, Crystals caters nearly 2,000 events annually, from chandelier-lit weddings under grand tents to intimate corporate dinners in Riyadh’s boardrooms.
Growth didn’t happen by chance. It flowed from a philosophy grounded in human connection. For Bilal, hospitality is memory. An imprint guests carry long after they leave. “Hospitality is an industry where details matter; where anticipating needs and exceeding expectations create lasting memories,” he reflects.
Redefining Trust and Privacy
Launching a catering business in Saudi Arabia 25 years ago meant navigating uncharted terrain. Full-service catering was rare. Privacy mattered deeply. Bringing external teams into private homes or weddings was a challenge.
“Saudi weddings are known for their grandeur and demand for the latest European-inspired trends, which pushed us to innovate constantly,” shares Bilal.
Brick by brick, he built trust through professionalism and discretion. He invested in people, training chefs, service staff, and operations leaders to treat quality as non-negotiable. Clients returned, knowing Crystals didn’t simply cater events – they safeguarded experiences. That early decision to prioritise care shaped the company’s identity and remains central to its operations today.
The Team as Family
Behind Crystals’ success lies loyalty. Many chefs and managers have stayed for over 15 years. “Our team is the backbone of Crystals’ success,” Bilal affirms. The team operates like a family, grounded in loyalty, accountability, and a shared passion for catering and guest services.
Daily briefings set the tone each morning. Continuous training keeps standards aligned. Professional development isn’t a checkbox; it’s a culture deeply embedded in their strategy. An HR specialist ensures that both Bilal and his team grow together, strengthening the business from its core.
Exposure to international trends fuels their creativity. Crystals sends teams to leading global trade shows, including Gulf Food, Horeca, Fiera Milano, Maison et object and Ambiente, IHGF Delhi and other premier home and accessories exhibitions. They return with ideas that challenge norms, ensuring Crystals stays ahead of the curve, not trailing behind.
“When we work with global brands, we make sure to follow their international standards and brand guidelines, ensuring consistent quality,” Bilal notes.
Crafting Experiences That Reflect Stories
Each event carries the imprint of Crystals’ philosophy: to create an experience that reflects the client’s personality, taste, and aspiration. When they plan a wedding, they listen first. When they craft a corporate dinner, they ask the questions others overlook. Who are these guests? What do they want to remember from this evening?
That mindset turns catering from a service into an art. Their recent purple-themed wedding embodied this ethos – a marriage of colour, emotion, and design that transformed a venue into a living narrative. For Crystals, no two events should ever feel the same. Replication has no place where authenticity is the promise.
Leadership Rooted in Balance
Hospitality rarely sleeps. Early morning coffees often flow into midnight receptions. Running a business that never stops demands more than operational excellence. It demands balance.
For Bilal, balance is a journey, not a destination. Sometimes he finds it. Sometimes he struggles. But what grounds him are the pauses – wellness trips with his family, moments of stillness with friends, and quiet reflections away from the daily grind.
These pauses remind him why he builds – to create a life of fulfilment, both professionally and personally. “To care for others through hospitality, you must also care for yourself,” he says.
His leadership flows from that centre, grounded, observant, and quietly determined.
Looking Ahead: Setting Trends, Not Following Them
Bilal’s vision stretches far beyond his culinary mastery. He seeks to set trends, not follow them. As Saudi’s hospitality landscape evolves with Vision 2030, Crystals is poised to redefine expectations.
He plans to introduce creative live stations that enhance guest interaction. Bespoke themed weddings will offer client experiences tailored down to the finest element. Soon, Crystals will launch its own premium bar service and expand its portfolio, offering clients a seamless end-to-end hospitality experience.
For Bilal, the future isn’t scale alone. It is agility. Staying ahead of global trends while honouring Saudi traditions. His goal remains clear – to be the trusted partner who brings ambitious visions to life with artistry and authenticity.
“We’re driven by the idea that no two events should ever feel the same. Our goal is to be the partner clients trust to bring their most ambitious visions to life,” he says.
